In my latest blog I wrote about the creation of the Virtual Degree Show. It is now LIVE!! On the 10th of July, graysdegree.show opened with a ceremony, DJ Sets and thousands of people navigating the virtual spaces. Managing to reach a global audience has been fantastic for us and created a lot more exposure of our work. I was blown away by the spaces people designed and how it all came together as one mesmerising show. I am particularly proud of what my Painting class achieved and how well all our work has come across in these spaces.
The Degree Show week saw thousands more visiting the spaces and getting in touch with artists through an online chat forum. There was also a programme of artists talks which I had the pleasure of taking part in. Over Instagram live, I made a 10-15min presentation about my work and answered any questions, which was a great way to engage more people with my space and explain the process of making the work more. The artist talk can still be viewed on my IGTV Video on Instagram @laurenfergusonart. I also undertook an artist interview with RGU:TV which can be viewed on Youtube, again talking about my inspirations, processes and the Degree Show.
Although Degree Show week came to an end, the website remains online for anyone to access at anytime, one of the many positives of having a virtual show.
Last night was the Virtual Awards Ceremony for Staff and Award Nominees, and it was beautifully put together. I was overwhelmed but extremely delighted to have been awarded the RGU Arts and Heritage Purchase prize and to have been selected for the RSA: New Contemporaries exhibition next year. I am beyond happy about this as it is has been a dream of mine to exhibit in this space. I'd like to congratulate all other prize winners and thank the wonderful staff at Gray's for all their hard work in making an amazing degree show and very memorable and happy ending to 4 years at Gray's School of Art.
At the very beginning of the month, I had an successful interview and I am delighted to announce that I have been selected as Graduate in Residence at Leith School of Art. I am really looking forward to this new chapter in a new art school and can't wait to share my work in the months to come.
It's been quite a crazy month!! But I am extremely happy, especially knowing that hard work and dedication to something can have the most positive results.
Thanks to all that support me on my artist journey.
